Terms of service

These terms are the agreement between you and Fretbook, operated from Tennessee, USA. By creating an account or using Fretbook, you're agreeing to them. You need to be at least 13 years old — or older where local law requires it. During the beta, you may also be asked to sign a beta participation agreement, which supplements these terms.

Keep your sign-in credentials to yourself, give us accurate information, and use one account per person. You're responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us right away at privacy@fretbook.app if you think someone else has gotten into it.

Everything you add to Fretbook — records, photos, documents, posts — stays yours. You give us permission to host, store, and display it, but only as needed to run the product and only as you direct: your private library stays private, and shared things are shown to the people you chose to share them with. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, as described in the Privacy Policy.

Only upload what you have the right to upload — your photos, your documents, your gear's story.

Fretbook is a place for people who care about their gear. Keep it that way:

• Treat other members with respect in the Lounge — no harassment, hate, or spam.
• Don't misrepresent gear: no counterfeit items, faked provenance, or knowingly false listings.
• Don't upload content that infringes someone else's rights.
• Don't scrape the service, probe other members' data, or interfere with how Fretbook runs.

Identify results and appraisals are generated by AI. They are estimates — often useful ones — not certified appraisals, and not guarantees of authenticity, condition, or value. The documentation you build in Fretbook is yours to hand to an insurer or buyer, but verify anything important independently before relying on it for an insurance, purchase, or sale decision.

Coda helps you organize information and intentions for the person you choose. It does not create legal rights to any property, it is not a will or a trust, and it's not a substitute for estate planning with a professional. Think of it as the letter you always meant to write — with the paperwork attached.

The Marketplace is a venue: sales are between members, and each party is responsible for their side of the deal. Fretbook doesn't own the items, doesn't guarantee their authenticity or condition, and doesn't guarantee that a buyer or seller will follow through. Checkout is currently a clearly labeled demo — no real payment occurs. When real payments launch, additional payment terms will apply and we'll tell you before they do.

The Fretbook name, design, and software are ours. These terms don't give you a license to them — just the right to use the product.

You can stop using Fretbook at any time, and you can have your account and everything in it deleted by emailing privacy@fretbook.app — the Privacy Policy describes how. We can suspend or close accounts that violate these terms, and we'll tell you why unless the law prevents it. When an account is deleted, its content is removed as described in the Privacy Policy.

Fretbook is provided as is. We work hard to keep it accurate, available, and safe, but we can't promise it will always be free of errors or interruptions, and we make no warranties beyond what the law requires.

To the extent the law allows, Fretbook's total liability to you for any claim is capped at the greater of one hundred dollars ($100) or the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages — including lost profits or lost data — though nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited.

These terms are governed by the law of the State of Tennessee, USA, and disputes belong in the state or federal courts located in Tennessee. If you use Fretbook from somewhere with consumer protections that this section can't override, those protections still apply to you.

When we make a material change, we'll announce it in the app or by email before it takes effect and update the date at the top. Using Fretbook after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms.
